INSPIRATION

All of our products have a creative universe
behind each piece. Here you can see a little of what
inspires our designers to design our furniture.

Dirt road in Moeda's region, Minas Gerais, Brasil.

Writer, and ambassador, among other occupations, João Guimarães was an exceptionally talented Brazilian author. Born in Codisgurgo, located in Minas Gerais’ countryside, on June 27th, 1908, Rosa was passionate about orality, cataloging, and creating words just like a language alchemist. Being a master in writing themes considered transregional, Guimarães was always able to evoke a naked realism, permeated with essential human feelings and emotions.

To the author, only one lexicon wouldn’t be enough to discover his adventures. Rosa, therefore, created his own language to convey the real meaning of what he meant to express. Through his deep knowledge of the morphology and etymology of words, Guimarães combined his sensitivity, attention to detail, and comprehension of other languages to create contexts that convey a Brazilian soul.

The Léxico Collection, which Klie launches in 2022, seeks to present a series of products that mention the book Léxico de Guimarães Rosa, published by the University of São Paulo and organized by Nilce Sant’Anna Martins in 2001.

Each product can be understood by its evident formal nature, however, its name configures a means to access a distinct level of comprehension and dialogue. Akin to hypertext, the name of each piece is capable of connecting us to a more sensible universe around furniture.

Just like a dictionary, the collection opens like an organization system for the words found in Guimarães Rosa’s adventures and written throughout his life. The words that name the products surpass their selection by morphological and phonetic elements (that exist and make part of the naming process), making guidelines for the shapes, materials, and processes related to the pieces that are part of the collection. Each given name henceforth influences any given aspect of the furniture they refer to in some way.

The EVO line, for example, means time, age, and endless duration; which is what directs to the use of perennial materials such as stone and steel that embody great durability and endurance.

The Léxico collection is born from uniting the tangible and intangible and allows for continuous launches and additions through time. Just like Guimarães, who believed that life and words walk together, the collection suggests that objects and words could likewise be linked, seeing that we understand that our life and the objects we choose to surround us are equally inseparable. The Léxico collection invites one to rediscover the Brazilian soul living within them.
